Pixel 11 vs iPhone 17: zoom and updates, or speed and weight

Only $30 separates the $899 Pixel 11 and the $929 iPhone 17 at list. I'd buy the iPhone, unless you want a 5x zoom lens or can use the Pixel's $200-off promo.

Amber marks my pick for that row.

At list, I'd buy the iPhone 17. The Pixel 11 wins more rows in the table above, and I still wouldn't pick it at full price, because the rows it loses are the ones I'd feel every day. If zoom photos or a long ownership matter more to you than speed, flip that.

GSMArena tested both phones, which makes this easier than most comparisons (checked Nov 1, 2026). Same outlet, same battery score. Every measurement below is theirs. The picks and the 7.9 are mine.

Prices, and the $30 that may not be $30

As of November 1, 2026, the list prices for 256GB are $899 for the Pixel 11 and $929 for the iPhone 17 with no carrier attached. Apple also advertises from $899 with carrier activation, so those two match if you're signing up with a carrier anyway (checked Nov 1, 2026).

The street picture is thin. The Google Store showed a $200-off promo on the Pixel through November 8, which I'd count as its street price if the terms suit you. I couldn't check those terms. I couldn't confirm a street price for the iPhone at any retailer.

If that promo works for you, the gap grows from $30 to $230. That changes my answer. At $230 less, I'd take the Pixel and its zoom lens.

Speed

The clearest gap of the lot. GSMArena says the A19 is dramatically more powerful than the Tensor G6, whose GPU barely moved from last year's chip and has no hardware ray tracing. Most high-refresh games stayed locked at 60 Hz on the Pixel in GSMArena's test.

The iPhone isn't a perfect gaming phone either, since GSMArena says it gets hot and throttles under sustained load. Even so, I'd take the A19 on that evidence.

Zoom

Easy win for Google. The Pixel has a 10.8 MP, 5x optical telephoto. The iPhone has a 2x digital crop. GSMArena notes the Pixel's lens isn't sharp beyond its native 5x, so don't overrate it.

If you shoot concerts, kids on a sports field, or animals, stop here and buy the Pixel.

Video goes the other way. GSMArena rates the iPhone's video quality and stabilization as excellent across all cameras. Its daylight stills disappointed the same outlet, with crushed shadows and clipped highlights.

Battery and charging

The Pixel has 4,985 mAh and the iPhone 3,692 mAh. That's 1,293 mAh more for only a small gain:

  • Pixel 11: 15.67 hours in GSMArena's active-use score
  • iPhone 17: 14.98 hours in the same score

Call it 41 minutes. I wouldn't choose a phone on that, and the 20 g you carry for it is arguably the bigger difference.

Charging is close to a draw. GSMArena got a full charge in 1 h 20 min on the Pixel at 30W. Its iPhone run took about 1 h 14 min on Apple's new adapter and 1 h 25 min on Google's charger. Wireless tops out at 25W on both.

Screens

These two split differently than you'd guess. GSMArena measured about 2,800 nits peak on the Pixel in a 10% window, and around 2,100 at 75%. GSMArena saw the iPhone's 1,700-plus burst hold for about 2 seconds before settling near 1,000.

So the Pixel is brighter, and I'd prefer it on a sunny beach.

The iPhone has the smarter panel. Its LTPO display runs up to 120 Hz, while the Pixel only switches between 60 and 120 Hz. Both are 6.3 inches. The iPhone has the higher resolution at 1206x2622 against 1080x2424, too.

Staying power

GSMArena reports seven years of software support on the Pixel. It expects at least five years of iOS updates for iPhones, and that's its estimate, since Apple hasn't promised a number. If you keep a phone until it dies, that's a real point for Google.

How I'd decide

  • Buy the Pixel 11 if you want a 5x lens, want Android, plan to keep it past five years, or can get the promo before November 8.
  • Buy the iPhone 17 if you already live on iOS, film a lot of video, or care about a 177 g phone that's 0.6 mm thinner.
